B.S.M.'s Santa's Streetcar 2014

Holiday Fun for Everyone

Every year, the Baltimore Streetcar Museum hosts its popular Santa's Streetcar.  (After all, it's the only place in Baltimore when you can visit Santa Claus by streetcar!)  This event, formerly known as Tinsel Trolley, has been an annual occasion since the early 1990's.  (It doesn't seem that long ago!)  Over the years, the format, albeit tweaked many times, has remained the same.  Children have the opportunity to ride an authentic Baltimore streetcar and visit with the Jolly Old Elf himself, right on the car.

This year, as has been for the past several ones, our fine Philadelphia PCC car #2168 was decorated as Santa's Streetcar to the North Pole that included LED lights and garland.  While other cars operated during the event, car #2168 was the streetcar that went to the North Pole with Santa Claus.  Children who visited with Santa shared their wish lists with him and received a small gift and, of course, a candy cane.

Not only is Santa's Streetcar was decorated for the holidays, our Visitors Center was decked out to rival any shopping mall.  (We think better!)  Light refreshments are served in our auditorium.  A reading of The Night Before Christmas periodically took place, for the children, in front of our 18ʹ tree, with hundreds and hundreds of energy-efficient LED lights.  (We can't give you an exact number.  We forget to count every time when we put up the tree.)  This year, the tree and the twinkle lights in the ceiling were computerized and synchronized with music.

Over the years, we have had many repeat customers.  And now, we are seeing former young visitors with their children!  If you have never visited us in December for this event, visit our Events Page for this year's dates.

Here are some pictures from this year's event.  We hope that you will enjoy them.
Our decorated Auditorium. Santa is ready.
Getting ready: Our Visitors Center auditorium is decorated from top to bottom and everything else in between. SANTA IS READY: Santa Claus sits in the back of car #2168, waiting for his first trip to the North Pole.
Vistors ride with Santa. They wait for another trip.
RIDING WITH SANTA: With Santa Claus at the back of the car, his visitors are ready to ride to the North Pole. WAITING FOR ANOTHER TRIP: Cars #2168 and #7407 wait at the Museum's Visitors Center loop for their next trip.
Two more cars. Returning from the North Pole.
APPROACHING THE LOOP: Car #4533 gets ready to turn left into the Visitors Center loop.  Car #2168 waits to be next. FROM THE NORTH POLE: Number 2168 returns yet again from the North Pole, with happy children (and parents) aboard.
Car #2168's final trip. Santa's helpers in board.
ITS LAST TRIP: Car #2168, resplendent at dusk, waits for its last trip to the North Pole.  The car's green clearance/marker lights add to the festive colors. IT'S BEEN A LONG DAY: Santa's helpers wait to take that last trip to the North Pole ... only to receive switches and coal!  (Santa really was good to them on Christmas Day!)  Nevertheless, without their hard work, this event would not have been successful.  Santa's cap is off to them!
